International

Programs

IGCSE

In Grades 9 and 10, the students follow a range of balanced and demanding two-year courses leading to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). This system is based on the British General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) where students are examined in a broad range of subjects at the age of sixteen. The International version of the GCSE originated with the University of Cambridge Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) and is ideal for such a culturally diverse school such as CWA.

A-Level

A-Levels are one option open to students in Grade 11 and Grade 12. A-Levels are academically focused and students specialise in a number of subjects. Students at Changsha WES Academy usually choose to study between three and four subjects. Changsha WES Academy offers A-Levels (dependent on availability) in: Chinese; English First Language; Business Studies; Economics; Global Perspectives; Biology; Chemistry; Physics; Mathematics; Further Mathematics; and Computer Science. Changsha WES Academy’s diverse range of A-Level subjects enables each student to choose their own pathway. A-Levels allow students to apply to many of the world’s top universities.

IBDP

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is another option open to students in Grade 11 and Grade 12. The IBDP is academically focused and students study six subjects across a number of different disciplines, including Chinese and English (either as a First Language or Additional Language) as well as Mathematics and Science. Whereas A-Levels reward academic specialisation and depth, the IBDP rewards academic breadth. The total teaching hours for the IBDP is equal to slightly less than the teaching hours for 4 A-Levels.

IBCP

The International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP) is a new and exciting pathway open to new students at Changsha WES Academy. The IBCP is a vocationally oriented course that will initially be focused on Accountancy and Art. The IBCP is aimed at students who have studied in Grade 9 at a local public school. Students studying for the IBCP will follow a one-year Pre-IBCP course that will prepare them to study full-time in an English language environment. The IBCP will allow students access to some of the larger, teaching universities in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
